Shoesmith LSC discusses future of school

Shoesmith Elementary School’s local school council (LSC) held its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday night in the school’s cafeteria.

Meeting discussions included:

The Professional Personnel Leadership Committee (PPLC)- PPLC consists of seven elected staff members representing each grade level, plus the two teacher members of the LSC. The PPLC will develop and formally present recommendations on school related matters including Curriculum, School Improvement Plan development and implementation and school budgeting to the LSC.

Rebranding Committee- The LSC is creating a rebranding committee to meet with parents, teachers and community members whose children will soon be of school age to finding out their visions and wants for the school.

My Voice, My School Survey- Shoesmith Principal Sabrina Gates presented the results of a survey taken by the school’s students and teachers who were surveyed on their thoughts on the academic, social and structural conditions of the school. The LSC discussed the first half of the survey at its November meeting, another part at its December meeting and will resume discussion of the survey results at its January meeting.

The next Shoesmith LSC meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 at 1330 E. 50th St.
