U. of C. announces artists in residence

The University of Chicago Arts and Public Life initiative last Wednesday revealed the five artists who will participate in its 2012-13 artists-in-residence program, according to a Dec. 5 prepared statement.

Artists-in-residence will include cellist Tomeka Reid, former Wilco guitarist LeRoy Bach, spoken-word performer and writer Avery R. Young, photographer Cecil McDonald Jr. and filmmaker Cauleen Smith, a professor at the University of California, San Diego.

Though a Washington, D.C., native, Reid has Hyde Park ties: She performed in last September’s Hyde Park Jazz Festival and taught orchestra at the U. of C. Lab Schools.

This year’s residence winners are preceded by visual artists Cathy Alva Mooses, Majeed Faheem and Eliza Myrie, who last summer held their final exhibition, “Local Metrics,” at the Logan Center.
