The eighth annual Roosevelt University Jazz-Gospel performance of Handel’s “Messiah” will include two Hyde Parkers in its chorus. The concert, billed as “Too Hot to Handel,” will take place at the Auditorium Theater of Roosevelt University, 50 E. Congress Parkway, Jan. 19 and 20.
A tradition since 2006, the performance is offered as a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., and the music incorporates elements of African American culture. The chorus and orchestra include 200 musicians, including Hyde Parkers Joy Bennett and Shelley Heard in the chorus.
Tickets are $30-$74 dollars and can be purchased at the Auditorium Theater Box Office or by phone at (800) 982-2787. A matinee performance for students up to high school will be offered Friday, Jan. 18. Tickets for the matinee can be purchased by calling 312-341-2357.
