Chandra Garcia, 6th grade teacher at Ray Elementary School, won an award from Chicago Public Schools and Office Max for being one of CPS’s outstanding teachers.

Garcia was one of 100 teachers to receive the honor. She received a new desk chair and $1,000 worth of supplies for her classroom from Office Max. Barbara Byrd Bennett, CPS CEO, and Brandon Marshall of the Chicago Bears both spoke to the winning teachers at a special ceremony and thanked them for going above and beyond for their students every day.

“Ms. Garcia personifies dedication to all students,” said Tatia Beckwith, principal at Ray Elementary School, 5631 S. Kimbark Ave. “Ray School, Chicago Public Schools and public education are all better places because Ms. Garcia is working for our kids.”

“Chandra is truly an inspiring teacher and a delightful person who gives her all to Ray School,” said Gordon Mayor, chairman of the local school council at Ray. “Whether it’s inspiring her 6th-grade students or coming to Ray on Saturday mornings to fix up Amanda’s Garden or helping out when the school administration needs someone to go above and beyond.”
