The Murray Language Academy Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will be hosting its 4th annual rummage sale on April 13 to raise money to assist with providing programs and other resources for the school. The school is currently seeking storage bins to for the sale.
The Murray PTO is in need of 80 Rubbermaid 18 gallon storage tubs to sort and store donated rummage sale items, said Maria Jossey, vice president of special projects for the PTO at Murray, 5335 S. Kenwood Ave. The PTO will be accepting donations of storage tubs from March 4 through March 10. The tubs will be recycled and used annually for the rummage sales.
Jossey said the PTO came up with the idea for a rummage sale because they wanted a fundraiser that would help both the school and the community.
“A rummage sale allows parents to purchase needed items at a great discount while helping to raise money for the school,” Jossey said.
The PTO is hoping to raise enough money to help cover educational and social programs and services for students, provide supplies for teachers and pay for technology in the school.
The organization will be accepting donations of new, gently used and cleaned items from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the school’s gym starting March 11. Some suggested items for donation include: designer clothing and accessories, clothing (infant, children, teen and adults), toys, games, purses, videos, DVDs, CDs, radios, sporting gear, baby products, household items, accessories, book shelves, smaller furniture items, and other items that are in good condition.
The rummage sale will take place Saturday, April 14th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school’s gym. Items for sale will start at 25 cents.
“Giving back to the community is important to the students of Murray Language Academy,” said Geri Redd, president of the Murray PTO. “To make sure that everyone benefits from the Rummage Sale, we are giving all unsold items to charity.”
Select organizations can call to have their participants be a part of a free shopping hour from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. E-mail Jossey at email@example.com for a charity shopping pass.
