Discount clothing retailer Ross Dress for Less will open in the approximately 50,000 square foot building that previously housed Michael’s Fresh Market, 1300 E. 47th St., later this year, according to new signage there.

The Kenwood store will be one of the company’s first within city limits, along with another in the Pullman Park retail complex slated to open this year at 720 E. 111th St. Ross Dress for Less entered the Chicagoland area in 2011, where it currently operates eight stores, according to the company’s website.

Michael’s Fresh Market’s Lake Pointe Park shopping center location closed on Feb. 19 of last year, the Herald reported, shortly after the chain supermarket filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 30, 2011.

Ross Dress for Less joins Akira as Hyde Park’s second chain clothing retailer.

As of Herald press time, Ross Dress for Less’ senior manager of investor relations, Connie Wong, and Ald. Will Burns (4th) had not responded to requests for comment.
