A Hyde Park man was charged with one felony count of bank robbery on Monday, March 4, after allegedly taking $1,874 from Fifth Third Bank, 1420 E. 53rd St., on Friday, March 1.
Robert D. Shaw, 54, of 527 E. 51st St., was charged with one count of bank robbery. In a statement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said Shaw entered the bank around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, approached a teller and requested to make a withdrawal of cash. The teller asked Shaw to provide identification — he declined and announced a robbery. The teller complied, Shaw folded the money, placed it in his jacket and left.
A description of Shaw went out over police radio. Chicago Police arrested him without incident on the 5200 block of Blackstone Avenue a short time later.
If convicted he could face a maximum of 20 years in prison.
