The annual Knights of Columbus Ladies’ Auxiliary prayer breakfast is set for Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. this year. Headlining the event is University of Chicago Divinity School Dean Margaret M. Mitchell. Proceeds have in the past established scholarships for children from low-income families at St. Thomas the Apostle School, 5467 S. Woodlawn Ave.

“I am really devoted to the school,” said Ladies’ Auxiliary member and secretary Louise Kaegi. “They really do wonderful stuff in there.”

Last year, the event raised $1,500 for the scholarships. The group has not yet decided where proceeds will go this year. Kaegi explained that donations to the school benefit the entire community.

“We talk about unity; we talk about God’s people in extraordinary variety,” she said, citing the parish’s motto.

Mitchell will speak on “receiving with meekness the implanted word.” The topic refers to a passage from a text in which believers are encouraged to put aside moral transgressions in favor of a contemplative attitude. The event will likely also feature musical entertainment, which had yet to be confirmed at press time.

Tickets for the event, which will be held at the school, can be purchased by calling 773-947-9729.
