MAC Properties’ request for a zoning change to bring Regents Park in line with is previous uses was approved by the zoning board last month, Peter Cassel said.
The zoning change would allow MAC to open the gym to the public and add amenities.
After Antheus Capital, the financial arm of MAC Properties, purchased the building in 2011, they went to renew the license for the gym and learned that no license had been applied for over the life of the building.
The gym was closed to the public shortly thereafter, though it remains as an amenity to residents. The building is seeking a zoning change from RM6.5, which no longer exists, to B3-5.
Construction on the main entrance, gym, restaurant and other amenities is expected to begin in the spring and continue through 2015.
