Parent group Illinois Raise Your Hand has joined Apples to Apples and the Open Data Institute to launch schoolcuts.org, a website with information about school closings and other information geared toward parents whose children attend Chicago Public Schools (CPS).

The site lists the 129 schools that fit within CPS’s criteria for underutilization including Canter Middle School, 4959 S. Blackstone Ave. and Kozminski, 936 E. 54th St and Reavis, 834 E. 50th St., elementary schools and data on each school such as nearby schools that students could be sent to in the area and past ISAT scores, probation trends, mobility rates and enrollment rates.

The website is using data from several sources, including CPS, the Illinois State Board of Education and the University of Chicago Urban Education Institute. The goal of the site is to help school leaders, parents, and communities learn more about the schools being considered for closing and what options will be available in case of closures, according to the schoolcuts.org site.
