The Chicago Youth Philanthropy Group, a University of Chicago student organization, is presenting a spring 5K race in Hyde Park Sunday, April 21. The group attempts to facilitate youth leadership on the South Side. The race will begin and end at the U. of C.’s main quadrangle.

Partnering with Run for It, another student group which promotes race-based fund raising, the group has high hopes for the event’s success.

“We currently have over 100 runners signed up as of Friday [the 12th],” race organizer Will Fernandez said. “With this enthusiasm we are expecting to raise a little over $2,000 from this race that will be shared between CYPG and Run For It.” The two student groups are hoping to create a Hyde-Park springtime tradition.

“…[W]e hope that this race and that this partnership will continue long into the future with the Hyde Park Spring 5K becoming an tradition on the University of Chicago campus as well as in the Hyde Park community in general,” Fernandez said.

Registration for the race is open. For more information, contact the Chicago Youth Philanthropy Group at thecpyg@gmail.com.
