New Smart exhibit, gallery talk

A new exhibit featuring the artwork of Franco-Russian painter Serge Charchoune will open Tuesday, May 7 at the Smart Museum, 5550 S. Greenwood Ave.

The exhibit, entitled “Other Modernisms: Serge Charchoune (1889-1975),” features around 20 pieces spanning the 1920s through the 1970s, according to the exhibit’s webpage. A gallery talk with curators David Schutter, a U. of C. art professor, and Wales-born artist Merlin James will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the exhibit’s opening day.
