Farmers markets are springing up

As the weather heats up farmers markets are popping up across the city:

The 61st Street Farmers Market at Experimental Station, 6100 S. Blackstone Ave., began its season on Saturday, May 11 and will run through Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The market offers produce, meat, eggs, cheeses, honey, bread and other prepared foods from local and regional farms including Mick Klug Farms, Mint Creek Farm, Peerless Bread and Jam, Growing Power and The Urban Canopy.

The market also features chef demos, live music and the “Market School” series – where a weekly expert drops knowledge about food and sustainability.

LINK is accepted and the market offers double value coupons of up to $25 for those who use the LINK card.

The Hyde Park Farmers Market, which also accepts LINK, will take place every Thursday starting June 6 and run through October 31 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Harold Washington Park, at 53rd Street and Hyde Park Boulevard.
