The proposal to build Vue53 passed Chicago City Council last Wednesday, clearing the way for the project to begin.
The ordinance passed with a vote of 49 to 0. Ald. Ed Burke (14th) recused himself.
The zoning change allows Mesa Development to build the proposed 154-foot-tall building at 1330 E. 53rd St. The site would have 267 apartments, 230 parking spaces and as many as six retail outlets.
The entire site will now be zoned B3-5, which allows for mixed-use and the building’s 13-story height.
