Local produce and specialty food market Open Produce, 1635 E. 55th St., will be hosting the market’s inaugural gallery event for photographer Fanta Celah. The opening event will exhibit Celah’s photography and paintings on Monday, July 1, between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The opening marks the start of Open Produce using its market as a gallery space for the community. Fanta Celah, their first artist, has had pieces appear at the Hard Rock Hotel and Museum of Science and Industry as well as galleries in Brooklyn and SoHo. Open Produce’s Sean Nicholson is “excited to have her.”

Nicholson describes Celah’s style as “bright and positive,” with an “African roots influence.” Treating themes such as American pop culture, politics and natural healing in her work, Celah’s gallery opening is well situated for the “vibe of our store,” Nicholson said.

An informal reception with snacks will be held. The event is BYOB.
