Somebody’s getting hitched; just who wedding bells will be ringing for is the secret.
Workers began erecting a large tent in the center of Promontory Point Monday. The tent, which is longer than a football field, will be fully cleaned up by Tuesday July 2.
Ald. Leslie Hairston (5th) said the private event is a wedding reception, but was mum about the identity of the happy couple.
The event will take place on Saturday night but from 6 a.m. that morning through noon on Sunday the entire park east of the bike path will be closed to pedestrians.
The Park District parking lot at 55th Street and Lake Shore Drive will be closed during those same hours as well as the South Museum of Science and Industry parking lot.
The rest of the week, the park is open to the public though the bulk of the lakefront park’s grassy field is fenced off for construction.
UPDATE: The event is a wedding reception for film director George Lucas and Ariel Investments’ Mellody Hobson, Crains Chicago Business is reporting.
