Chicago Police News Affairs issued a warning after a man attempted to lure a 13-year-old girl into his vehicle on the 5000 block of South Dorchester Avenue.

News Affairs said an African American male, either in his late 30s or early 40s, with a dark complexion, bald head, heavy build and glasses, approached the victim and began to yell at her.

The offender told the victim to get into his vehicle, described as a faded gray minivan, but the victim was able to run away and return home unharmed.

Police are advising people to be aware of the situation and alert their neighbors. Call 911 if they see suspicious activity. Don’t let children walk alone and identify safe havens, such as a business or trusted neighbor, along their children’s route to and from school.

Police also advised that parents work together to start a parent patrol or walking school bus program at their children’s school.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Area Central Detective Division at 312-747-8380.
