The University of Chicago has named a new director for its water research initiative at the Institute for Molecular Engineering.
Steven Sibener began serving his two-year term on July 1.
The water initiative is new, only launching in June. The initiative is in collaboration with Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Argonne National Laboratory.
The initiative’s stated goal is to make clean, fresh drinking water more accessible and plentiful by 2020 and use it more effectively in agriculture and other industries.
Sibener specializes in chemical physics, materials research and nanoscience. Previously he was the director for the university’s James Franck Institute of its Material Research Science and Engineering Center.
