Whole Foods is still planning on opening its first South Side store inside City Hyde Park in 2015, despite neighborhood rumors to the contrary.
“I’m happy to report that there’s no truth to the rumor,” said Eli Ungar, principal at Antheus Capital. “People like to speculate about these things.”
Antheus Capital is the private financier for the highly subsidized City Hyde Park. Whole Foods will be the anchor tenant for the development, which will also have 182 residential units, underground parking and additional retail.
The building will be constructed at the corner of 51st Street and Lake Park Avenue. Demolition on the former Village Shopping Center was initially expected to begin last fall.
Peter Cassel, spokesman for Antheus, has previously stated that the project is still on time and expected to open in the spring of 2015.
