Hyde Park’s annual Mum and Bulb Sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Hyde Park Shopping Center, 1526 E. 55th St.
The sale, which is organized by the Hyde Park Garden Fair Commitee, features six different departments: hyacinths and crocuses, tulips, houseplants, narcissus and daffodils and mums.
The sale typically includes around at least 150 varieties of bulbs, according to George Rumsey, chair of the specialty bulb department. The bulbs are from Holland and mums are handpicked shortly before and delivered the morning of the sale.
Rumsey said proceeds will go to the Hyde Park Garden Fair Committee’s plantings in Spruce and Nichols parks, as well as its parent organization, the Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference.
“The [Hyde Park Garden Fair] is very intense, because it’s so big,” Rumsey said. “The fall fair is a lot of fun, especially if the weather’s nice. People like to come and chat and that’s enjoyable.”
