Linda Collins is the new librarian at Ray Elementary School. She succeeds Leslie Travis, who retired on June 30 having served at the school for 21 years.

Collins has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Purdue University; a master’s degree in education, specializing in curriculum and instruction from National Louis University and a master’s degree in library science from Chicago State University.

Before coming to Ray, 5631 S. Kimbark Ave., Collins was a librarian at Keller Gifted Center.

She said the thing she is most looking forward to during her first school year at Ray is creating a vibrant environment in the library.

“I want to bring the library to life, creating a place of warmth, discovery, and fulfillment from and with my students,” Collins said in a written statement. “The library is a community institution; together we can make it a colorful, vibrant place.”
