The Hyde Park Ramada has changed its name to Chicago Lakeshore Hotel after ending its contract with the hotel chain.
Earl Adams, director of sales and marketing at the hotel, 4900 S. Lakeshore Dr., said that the opportunity arose to end its contract with the national hotel chain and become independent, so they took it.
“It’s just basically a name change; many hotels have become independent,” Adams said. “It used to be that it was very hard to compete with national chains but the Internet has leveled the playing field.”
The change should amount to little more than a rebranding campaign, he said.
Additionally, he said, the Hyatt has been a boon to its business.
“When you bring another hotel to the area they market the area too,” Adams said. “Hotels are like dominoes — one fills up then the next one fills up. I expect it to be a friendly relationship and a cooperative relationship.”
