A fire broke out late Tuesday afternoon behind a BP gas station, 5130 S. Lake Park Ave.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., a firetruck stood on 52nd Street while a small team of firefighters in the alleyway behind the station sprayed a wooden fence with water.

“[The fire] came to our side,” said Saeed Haddad, an employee at the Great Steak restaurant inside the station.

Haddad smelled the fire and called 911 immediately after he saw it. He said the fire reached the height of the generators on an electricity pole next to it.

“It was like it hit it,” Haddad said.
