Hyde Park patrons of the 47th Street LA Fitness can choose to transfer their memberships to the 53rd Street club when it opens, but it is likely to cost them.
Ald. Will Burns (4th) spoke on behalf of the 47th Street LA Fitness at the Fourth Ward meeting on Monday Oct. 21. He said a representative of the company had been scheduled to attend but backed out.

Burns said he had spoken to the company’s district vice president who said members at the club will be able to take their membership to the 35th Street branch, that will open next spring at 35th Street and Martin Luther King Dr., for no additional fees.

Burns said patrons at the 47th Street location can talk to the management about how much it would cost to transfer the membership to the 53rd Street LA Fitness, which will open in Harper Court this fall.

A man who identified himself as a manager at the 47th Street LA Fitness location, who declined to comment or give his name, said that location is not scheduled to close. The company’s corporate office did not respond by Herald press time.

LA Fitness purchased the 47th Street location after Bally’s closed in 2011.
