Chicago Heights restaurant Bergstein’s NY Deli opened its Hyde Park location Monday.

The deli’s restaurant at 1164 E. 55th St. will “work the kinks out,” according to owner Bill Davis, before a grand opening later this winter.

Manager Josh Widen said the deli will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., until hours extend in February. He added that the store is aiming for an early February grand opening, an event he expects will feature live music.

Owner Bill Davis told the Herald last summer that he expected a Labor Day opening. But the 33-seat restaurant — which required some demolition on its ceiling and a second air conditioner on the roof — has taken more than half-a-year to open since the lease was signed last spring.

“It was a lot of little things,” Davis said, adding that obtaining the building permit “was a lot more challenging than we had thought.”

“It’s sort of been a long eight months for us but we’re excited to open,” Davis said. “We hope to be here a long time.”
