The University of Chicago chose McShane Construction Company to design and build the new Facilities Services shop at 5225 S. Cottage Grove Ave.

The 86,616-square-foot building will allow Facilities Services to consolidate its operations and staff into one location. The new building will house landscaping equipment, structural mechanics, residential, paint, electrical lock and inventory shops. It will also contain a 24-foot height drive-in clearance with an interior dock.

The contemporary exterior design will include tinted, precast panels and a metal canopy over the entrance along Cottage Grove Avenue.

Exterior lighting will be placed along the street.

The building will be constructed to meet LEED-Silver certification. It will include geothermal heating, a green roof, permeable pavers and electric car charging stations.
