A 20-year-old University of Chicago student was found dead in his room at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in Booth House in International House, 1414 E. 59th St.
Nicholas Brastin Barnes was a third-year Germanic Studies student at the college. Karen Warren Coleman, vice president for Campus Life and Student Services, and Dean of Students Susan Art both released statements saying that those affected can seek help through Student Counseling Services or Spiritual Life.
Barnes’ family is planning a funeral in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Penn., but a memorial service will take place on campus at a later date.
Chicago Police said it is being treated as a death investigation. There was no evidence of foul play. The Cook County Medical Examiner said will release a cause of death pending toxicology tests.
International House is a dormitory with room for approximately 500 university students and guests in primarily single bed rooms.
