Bid to build Obama library begins

The Barack Obama Foundation released a request for qualifications for the planned Obama presidential library Thursday afternoon.

The document asks institutions across the country seeking to host the president’s library how their proposal will satisfy the library’s “guiding principles.” An Obama library is being pursued by the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Chicago and Chicago State University, as well as the University of Hawaii and Columbia University.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel has said he supports a unified Chicago bid for the library.
