Ald. Leslie Hairston’s (5th) office recently announced two community meetings to discuss how the ward’s discretionary funds will be spent this year.
Last year the 5th Ward adopted a process dubbed participatory budgeting, in which residents voted on how to spend $1 million in aldermanic menu money. Beginning this week, constituents from each of the ward’s four neighborhoods are instead meeting to discuss how to spend the money in their community.
A meeting focusing on the Hyde Park and Grand Crossing neighborhoods will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight at the 5th Ward Service Office, 2325 E. 71st St.
