WHPK DJs will be presenting their seasonal Soul Reunion celebration from 1-10 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at Hyde Park Records, 1377 E. 53rd St.

The first Soul Reunion event of the year — which coincides with Record Store Day — is one of three such annual events presented by DJs from WHPK’s weekly show, “The Dusties Party.” First held in 2010 at Mr. Peabody Records in Morgan Park, the event moved to Hyde Park Records in 2012 after the store closed.

DJs will spin records from the ‘60s through the early ‘80s spanning such genres as soul, funk and dance, according to WHPK DJ Gary Tyson.

Several artists including singers Ruby Andrews-Lester and Renaldo Domino have also been invited, although Tyson said who will show up and whether anyone will perform remains a mystery. Just last fall, blues artist Syl Johnson gave an impromptu performance.

“If the artists feel like doing it, we give them a mic and we let them go ahead and have at it,” Tyson said.

Tyson added that if the weather allows the event will feature an outdoors “Soul Train Line” — a line dance inspired by the popular TV music show.
