An ad-hoc committee of Hyde Parkers will discuss how to spend 5th Ward menu money at a public meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday at Augustana Church, 5500 S. Woodlawn Ave.
Ald. Leslie Hairston announced in an April 2 newsletter that this year’s funds would be directed mostly toward lighting and street resurfacing. To help decide how to spend the money, four committees have been formed representing the ward’s four neighborhoods — South Shore, Grand Crossing, Woodlawn and Hyde Park.
“All this week, we’re soliciting feedback,” said Hyde Park committee member George Rumsey, who has been surveying streets and seeking input on the quality of local sidewalks from residents of the DARE building, 1616 E. 55th St.
The committee also includes former Hairston administrative assistant Sue Purrington, former Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference President Gary Ossewarde and Anne Marie Miles, a recent political challenger to Ald. Hairston.
