Local residents looking for family biking

Hyde Park resident Juan Boyce is organizing a Kidical Mass biking event for kids at the end of this month.

Kidical Mass is a national movement to encourage families to ride bicycles for transportation, exercise and fun, according to its website. It currently has events in neighborhoods including Roscoe Village, Logan Square, Lincoln Square, South Loop and Lincoln Park.

“I often take my daughter across town on my bike to participate in family events,” Boyce said. “But I wish that there were more things to do closer to home.”

Boyce accepted Kidical’s challenge to organize his own group and now the Southside Kidical Mass will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every last Saturday of the month at Mandrake Park 900 E. Pershing Ave.

The bike riding events are for young children and their families. Rides are generally 2 to 4 miles at a slow pace so that younger children can keep up.
