Encore Resale Clothing, 1553 E. Hyde Park Blvd., will host its first summer sidewalk sale of the year this Friday and Saturday, with hopes of chipping away at the store’s debt.
The store, founded in Dec. 2010, held its first series of summer sidewalk sales last summer. Store Manager Rebekah Sales says she hopes to host three this summer, another in July and August.
“They were helpful for getting us further on our feet,” Sales said. “We’re just starting to dig out from startup costs.”
“We’d like to be totally profitable by two years from now,” she added.
The discount resale store employs three and gets help from 12 volunteers. It accepts clothing from anyone anytime it’s open and donates clothes that aren’t sold to the Salvation Army.
In the past it’s donated to children’s camp programming by Young Life, a non-denominational Christian non-profit. Sales says she would like to begin working with the Christian kids’ club By The Hand to host an internship for high-school students.
“As we get more established we want to start doing stuff for this community,” Sales said, adding that connecting people with homeless shelters and pregnancy centers were possibilities.
