Gerald Ratner dead at 100

U. of C. benefactor and law school alum Gerald Ratner died last Friday, June 20, at the age of 100.

Ratner, who advised the politically-influential, billionaire Crown family on legal matters, gave the U. of C. $15 million toward its $51 million gym, which was completed in 2003 and named after him.

In 2006, he also donated $5 million toward the Gerald Ratner Distinguished Service law professorship and $1 million toward the Smart Museum’s entrance space, the Eunice Ratner Reception Gallery, which was named after his late wife.

Ratner turned 100 on Dec. 17, 2013.
