Several Hyde Park institutions have partnered with Make Music Chicago and will participate in Summer Solstice, a citywide day of music events, on Tuesday, June 21.
Chicago, which has held the Summer Solstice event annually since 2011, is only one of 700 cities around the world that partakes in the Fete de la Musique, the world’s largest daylong celebration of music.
From 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Marsha’s Music will hold an event at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club, 5480 S. Kenwood Ave. At 2 p.m., and again at 5:30 p.m., La Rabida Children’s Hospital, 6501 S Promontory Dr., will host a classical music ensemble for children.
The International House, 1414 E. 59th St., will host a classical act at 4 p.m., a hip-hop/R&B act at 5 p.m. and an experimental act at 5:30 p.m. inside the auditorium space.
Twelve DJs will take over the Midway Plaisance Park, 1130 Midway Plaisance, playing sets of electronic dance music from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages.
