Local businesses will host various activities throughout the day during Hyde Park Holly-Day on Saturday, Dec. 10.
The holiday fun begins at 10 a.m. at Einstein Bros. Bagels, 5225 South Harper Court, with a special breakfast with the big man himself: Santa Claus. An ice carving demonstration by a professional ice carver will be at Harper Court at that time as well, creating frozen masterpieces.
Also at 10 a.m., Freehling Pot and Pan, 1365 E. 53rd St., is planning a free holiday cupcake decorating workshop for kids ages five and up, accompanied by an adult. Kids will learn how to decorate a cupcake in time for the holiday season and get to keep their delicious creations.
Beginning at 11 a.m., Spiderman will show up at Freehling Pot and Pan, as well as at Pearle Vision, 1200 E. 53rd St., as one of the many characters that children can meet throughout the day.
Characters like Elsa from the movie “Frozen” will be at Noteworthy Notes, 5231 S. Harper Ct., from 11 .m. to noon, and at Kilwins, 5226 S. Harper Ave., from noon to1 p.m. Wonder Woman will make an appearance at Jojayden Shoes, 1457 E. 53rd St., at 11 a.m. and again at the Silver Room, 1506 E. 53rd St. at noon.
Elena from Disney’s TV series, “Elena of Avalor” will be available for photos with children at 11 a.m. at Toys et Cetera, 1502 E. 55th St., and at noon at Treasure Island, 1526 E. 55th St.
Ald. Sophia King (4th) will lead carols in Harper Court from noon to 2 p.m., to get the neighborhood in the joyful holiday spirit.
Residents can have lunch with Santa from noon to 1 p.m. at Native Foods Café, 1518 E. Harper Court, and for the grown-ups, cocktails with Santa begins at 6 p.m. at Seven Ten Lanes, 1055 E. 55th St.
