The holiday season is officially over, which means taking down the festive decorations. To help with the process, the Chicago Park District (CPD) has opened several drop-off locations to recycle Christmas trees.
From now through Jan. 21, 24 Chicago parks will be drop-off spots for trees to be recycled. For Hyde Park residents, the nearest drop-off site is Jackson Park, 6401 S. Stony Island Ave.
Live trees can be dropped off inside tree corals that are set up at the parks. Decorations such as ornaments, lights, garland and tinsel must be removed from the tree in order for it to be recycled.
Trees will only be recycled through the CPD program, and will not be recycled if put inside of a garbage can for regular trash pickup.
Wreaths, garlands and artificial trees are not accepted for recycling. For more information, call 311.
