Nando’s Peri-Peri Chicken, 1447 E. 53rd St., is adding an outdoor seating area. The wooden benches and railing are already in place in front of the restaurant. According to general manager Kristin Letsinger, the tables and planters that will complete the area should be in place by the second week of April.
Letsinger said there will be between 10 to 15 tables and large planters with tall grass to delineate the outdoor space at Nando’s, whose signature dish peri-peri chicken, a spicy, marinated chicken dish, originated in South Africa.
Letsinger said the restaurant will also utilize its indoor-outdoor space. She said the windows to the right of the main door are also doors that fold in and allow access to the street. She said the outdoor seating area will be gated off and the sidewalk between the restaurant and the patio will not be obstructed.
“All Nando’s in the U.S. that I’ve seen have patios,” Letsinger said adding that the outdoor seating area will help the restaurant compete with other eating establishments along 53rd Street that have outdoor seating.
