Democratic committee to convene this week seeking a replacement to fill vacant county commissioner post

The 2nd District of Cook County committeemen will convene this week in search of a replacement to fill the vacant Cook County Commissioner post following the unexpected death of Cook County Commissioner Robert B. Steele. The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, July 13, at The Lofts on Arthington, 3301 W. Arthington St.

Members of the committee within the 2nd District of Cook County serve on the District Appointment Committee. The 2nd district encompasses 18 wards citywide.

Ald. Michael Scott Jr. (24th) has been appointed as chairman of the committee. Prospective candidates must receive 50 percent plus one vote to assume the role as county commissioner.

Anyone who is interested in applying to seek appointment can do so by sending an email to 2nddistrictcommissioner@gmail.com. The email should include a resume, a copy of their voter registration, voter history, and letters of recommendation.

Appointees who submitted their information before the meeting on Thursday will have the floor to address the District committee first followed by any qualified residents who are looking to be considered for the role.
