Kenwood falls to Morgan Park in worst defeat of the season

In spite of 12 points by senior RJ McGee and 16 points by junior Elijah Stewart, the 15th ranked Kenwood Academy High School Broncos boys basketball team suffered their worse loss of the season after a 108-79 defeat to Morgan Park High School on Thursday night, Dec.14, at Morgan Park Gymnasium, 1744 W. Pryor Ave.

In the first half, the Broncos jumped out to an early lead. Thanks to a huge three-pointer by senior RJ McGee giving his team a 15-11 lead with three minutes and twenty seconds remaining in the first quarter. After a break away dunk by Kenwood’s Nas Turner, the Mustangs would finish the half with runs of 12-3, 12-2, and 13-6 led by one of ESPN Top 100 Players Ayo Dosunmu with 13 points giving his team a 49-35 lead at the half.

“What we were missing are point guards and it was kind of tough to get pass their press,” McGee said. “He [coach Marlo Finner] told us to be patient.”

In the second half, the Mustangs would witness one of the greatest offensive performances in school history. As guard Ayo Dosunmu would explode for 37 points in the half while finishing with a career high 50 points leading his team to a 29 point victory.

Final Score: Morgan Park 108, Kenwood 79

After falling to the Mustangs, the Broncos are now 5-2 on the season.
