The 2nd District police department has yet to announce when next year’s Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) beat meetings will take place. The CAPS program’s $3.5 million funding will be axed under the 2013 Chicago budget.
Despite the cuts, 2nd District spokesperson Felicia Square told the Herald Nov. 3 that its CAPS beat meetings — canceled for the month of December — would resume next year and that District officials are currently in the process of determining when they would take place. The statement follows 2nd District Lieutenant Mark Moor’s announcement at a Nov. 19 4th Ward Meeting that the meetings would continue in 2013.
