Christmas trees turned to mulch

Hyde Parkers can visit Jackson Park to dispose of their Christmas trees once again this year.

Residents can visit Jackson Park, 6300 S. Cornell Ave., where their trees will be shredded and be turned into mulch which will be available for free pickup and use starting Jan. 11.

Ornaments, lights, and garland should all be removed before placing the tree in the Christmas tree corral. The city is not able to accept decorations, tree lights, wreaths, garland, or household recyclable materials at these locations.

Citywide, the program kept more than 14,300 trees out of landfills last year, according to the Department of Streets and Sanitation website.
The site will accept trees through Friday, Jan. 18.
