The 53rd Annual University of Chicago Folk Festival will take place February 8, 9 and 10. Organized by the University Folklore Society, the festival has in the past brought big names in folk music like Ralph and Carter Stanley and Bill Monroe to Hyde Park.
This year’s festival, which includes daytime workshops and evening performances, will feature Elmore James Jr., a blues musician, as well as a number of touring ensembles and partners. The Folk Society uses the festival to promote traditional U.S. music, as well as music from around the world.
Festival events take place in Ida Noyes Hall, 1212 E. 59th St. during the day and in Mandel Hall, 1131 E. 57th St. during the evening. A full schedule and list of performers is available at uofcfolk.org. To purchase tickets, call 773-702-7300 or visit the Mandel Hall Box Office, 1131 E. 57th St.
