Camp Douglas subject of discussion

David Keller, managing director of the Camp Douglas Restoration Foundation, will speak at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Hyde Park Historical Society, 5229 S. Lake Park Ave.

Keller will discuss the history and group’s archaeological study of the Camp Douglas civil war prison, according to the society.

More than 25,000 soldiers were trained and 4,000 prisoners died at Camp Douglas, which doubled as the Union army’s largest Chicago training camp.

The event will include a question and answer session as well as refreshments.
