Hays bridge closer to reality

Staff Writer

The Chicago Park District Board will vote today on the proposal to rename a bridge in Jackson Park after Nancy Hays.

Hays was a Hyde Park Herald photographer and worked as an environmentalist in the neighborhood until her death in 2007.

She photographed Hyde Park before and after Urban Renewal and often showed the neighborhood from a playful angle.

She was a well-known advocate for parks and nature. She founded the Jackson Park Advisory Council and Friends of the Parks.

The proposal to rename the north bridge on Wooded Island will be voted on following the 45-day comment period that ended this month.
