A Hyde Park restaurant was gutted by fire days before it was scheduled to open.

Wingers, 1638 E. 53rd St., caught fire Feb. 5. Management company MAC Property spokesman Peter Cassel said there was smoke damage to three apartments above the restaurant but no injuries.

Fire damage was contained to the first-floor restaurant.

MAC will repair damage done to the hallways, ceilings, stairwells and walls in the coming days, including the skylight the Chicago Fire Department damaged to help extinguish the blaze.
