A Hyde Park man was charged with the murder of his 3-week-old daughter after she died at Comer Children’s Hospital from injuries resulting from repeated shaking.

Jose Garcia, 28, was arrested initially after his daughter was admitted to Comer Children’s Hospital, 5721 S. Maryland Ave., at 2:45 p.m. on March 1 in critical condition.

Chicago Police investigators charged Garcia with one count of aggravated battery to a child after he admitted he was responsible for shaking and tossing his daughter into the air, resulting in severe trauma to the brain.

Judge Joseph D. Panarese set Garcia’s bond at $400,000.

The infant succumbed to her injuries on March 12. The Cook County State’s Attorney charged Garcia with murder.

Panarese allowed the bond to stand.
