U. of C. starts on new dorm

The University of Chicago broke ground on the site of the 800-bed dormitory that will replace Pierce Hall on Friday.

The North Campus Dorm will be under construction until September 2016. The Studio Gang designed residence hall and dining commons will house primarily undergraduates.

The three buildings will house a total of eight houses with 100 students in each. Each house will have a three-story common area at its core where first- through fourth-year students can live and study in a group setting.

Third- and fourth-year students will have more independent living spaces including kitchens and private rooms.
