Chicago Police issued a warning after two connected robberies in Hyde Park in February.

CPD said there have been two home invasions and burglaries in the area of 53rd Street and Drexel Avenue. In each instance burglar gains entry to a home, threatens the occupants and takes their property.

The first incident was reported at 6:55 a.m. February 17 on the 5300 block of South Drexel Avenue. The subsequent events occurred at 7:45 a.m. February 21st and 24th on the 800 block of East 53rd Street.

Chicago police recommend that residents keep the perimeter of their property well lit and report any suspicious activity immediately. Secure doors and windows, repair any broken windows, doors or locks. If there is video surveillance available make a copy of the incident for detectives. Neighbors should work together to watch each other’s homes for suspicious activity.

If a crime has occurred do not touch anything, call the police immediately and if approached by a witness, request contact information.
