South Side Shrimp closes in Hyde Park

Less than three years after opening a store in the Del Prado building, South Side Shrimp has closed.

In the summer of 2012, Beverly resident Julia Moore opened her Mt. Greenwood-based restaurant’s second location in Hyde Park, 5319 S. Hyde Park Blvd., drawn by the area’s population density. But revenue couldn’t keep up with costs.

“I just couldn’t make it there,” Moore said.

A Chicago couple is in talks to take over the storefront, according to Moore, who said they still want to sell shrimp there.

In the meanwhile, Moore is tending to her more successful Mt. Greenwood store.

“You have to sell a lot of shrimp to pay your rent, to pay your utilities,” Moore said.
